ABOUT JOHN

I have lived in Florida since 1995. I have over 30 years of computer and electronics experience.

A native of New York, I spent most of my later childhood in Albuquerque, NM, where we moved when I was starting 5th grade.  After graduating from Eldorado High School in 1977, I enlisted in the USAF.  My specialty was as an Instrument Flight Trainer Specialist, which included training in basic electronics, trainer/simulator electronics, and instrument flight instruction.

After serving in the USAF, I enlisted in the USN, under the Nuclear Propulsion Program. I served as an Electronics Technician and Reactor Operator aboard a nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, USS George Bancroft (SSBN 643 – Gold Crew). Later I became an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Prototype Unit in Ballston Spa, NY. My next assignment was at the Naval Housing Office in Saratoga Springs, NY, where I worked in the office and self-taught how to use the computers, which were Zenith versions of the original IBM Compatibles. Following that I was assigned to Naval Station Norfolk in the Administrative Department to manage and support the computers at the Naval Station. By this time, the Navy was using Zenith Z-248’s (IBM 286 compatibles). I continued to learn more and more about computers and took on continued additional duties relating to computer support.  By the end of my enlistment, in 1988, I had decided to leave the Navy and was offered the same job at the Naval Station, as a civilian employee.  I continued in that capacity and in 1991, it was expanded to include support of the entire naval base under Commander Naval Base Norfolk.

In 1995, I was selected for a transfer and promotion to the Miami office of the US Securities and Exchange Commission. I provided all computer and technical support for a staff of 60, which grew to over 100 by the time I left in 2005.  I provided all aspects of computer support, hardware & software installs, network server and LAN support, and assisting users with any computer or technology related issues.

Over my long and varied career, I have worked with almost every type of computer, (desktop, laptop, server, etc.) and every version of Windows, (95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, VISTA, Win7, Win8, Win10), besides some Unix, Linux and Novell experience. This gives me the full range of experience to be able to solve your computer problems.
